This week I am in an email marketing state of mind, and while my cheat sheet covers how to get started, I got a great question on Instagram this week about what is involved in changing the service you use! Moving Your Mailing ListI read that Instagram is rolling three-minute Reels out to more users – but I will have to wait a little longer. Luckily, I was able to speed up my Reel showing how to export your mailing list from your existing email marketing service and then how to import it into your new tool just enough to fit into the 90 second limit, and you can check it out here! Even without the magic of video editing, it’s still a pretty quick process. The actual time it takes will depend on how long your mailing list is and how many groups or segments you need to link up in the new tool, but it’s likely something you can knock out in under 15 minutes. Cleaning Up Authentication SettingsAt the end of that Reel, I promised a blog post about updating your domain name settings to clean up changes you made to authenticate your previous email marketing service. That is now up on the blog, and I hope it’s a helpful resource to anyone switching email marketing services. This is definitely a more sensitive process than the mailing list importing and exporting, and if you used something like an automatic setup when you first started using the email marketing service, you may want to pay special attention to the advanced workflow note in the post. Learn While You Verify With LearnDMARCThere are a lot of acronyms floating around when it comes to email marketing services and authentication. LearnDMARC is a really great site because in addition to verifying that your domain name settings are correct, it’s formatted like a chat and walks you through each step of the verification process in clear language that explains why a step is passing or failing. I’ll do a deeper dive in a future newsletter or blog post, but I wanted to share this tool in the meantime because I really appreciated the explanations it provided along the way. |
