Banishing the Sunday Scaries:
Nurturing Community Connections

If I were going by my usual cadence, this email should have gone out a few weeks ago.
But, as you might have been, I was reeling with uncertainty and grief after the election. I didn’t want to write from that place, and frankly, I didn’t have the words even if I had wanted to.
When I’m talking about computer issues with friends, they sometimes reply, “I wish I were as tech-savvy as you!”. And for each friend, there is some strength of theirs that I see shine just as brilliantly. To start with, it would be so boring if we all were passionate about and excelled in the same areas. But more than that (and I promise this is where it ties back to where I started) - how much weaker we would be as a community!
As an introvert, I haven’t always been the best about intentionally nurturing community connections. But those threads are there, even for me, and I know I learn more and can do more because of them. Now, more than ever, it feels so important to recognize the power of connections, to nurture and appreciate our existing ones, and to continue to build new ones.
Many of us are solopreneurs or only have small teams - but by reaching out, lending our strengths, and relying on others, we can be less alone in it all.
- I’m currently reading Braiding Sweetgrass for Monica @houseofesperanza’s book club. I appreciate her creating a space for this, her excitement for books reminding me of my joy for them, and what I am already learning from this first book. This quote felt perfect for what I’m trying to convey this week:
“The most important thing each of us can know is our unique gift and how to use it in the world. Individuality is cherished and nurtured, because, in order for the whole to flourish, each of us has to be strong in who we are and carry our gifts with conviction, so they can be shared with others.” ― Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
- This prompt to write from my heart helped me break through the gestures at all the things writer’s block. I am so glad Natalia Sanyal speaks up for what she believes in and for her thoughtful Momentum prompts, which take a lot of the guesswork out of me doing the same.
- I’m in a local small business program that combines training and mentoring. Between connecting with other small business owners going through their own victories and worries, tapping into the genuinely invested groups of people at the town and county level, and my upcoming mentorship, I’m really grateful for being accepted into this year’s cohort.
- The Monday accountability syncs (or just checking in with each other calls) I’m in are a huge part of starting my week off on the right foot. On top of that, I’m excited to be working with a coach to plan out what the first half of 2025 holds for Zorya Rose.
Thank you for being part of this newsletter community. I hope this week you can recognize your gifts, and also see opportunities for community to share them with others.
